RIM of Pacific Exercise
RIMPAC (What is RIMPAC?)
- The world's largest combined forces naval training conducted every other year off the shores of Hawaii by the navies of the countries located on the coasts of the pacific rim to secure safe sea routes and acquire combined skills needed to handle naval disputes. (RIMPAC : Rim of Pacific)
- First held in '71(with United States, Canada, Austrailia, and New Zealand participating)
- Held every year from '71 ~ '74 and every other year since '76
- Japan began participating in '80, England in '86, Korea in '90, Chile in '96, and Peru in '02
※ Korea visited as an observer in '88 and began deploying ships in '90 announcing formal participation.
- The countries divide into a multi-national force and a counter force to conduct free battles including anti-submarine warfare and anti-vessel battles, and also conduct naval interception operations and rescue operations.
